Here at the Steiner School, every day is an outside day and the Berkshires are beautifully “weathery,” so back-to-school supplies are mostly about clothing and outside gear. (Many classroom materials are provided by the school.)
We don’t have a uniform at Steiner, but we do have apparel guidelines about what to wear to school – please be sure to check your Family Handbook for details, then read on for tips on where to find school clothes that match the Steiner dress code.*
In general, dress your child for comfort, keeping in mind the changeable Berkshire weather in all seasons, and send a change or two of clothing to keep in their cubby. It’s beautiful at our school how dressing students without visible brands, labels, images or logos, allows the child’s unique personality to shine through. And it helps them be present and not distracted during the school day.
Here’s a gear list for both early childhood and the grades, plus advice from seasoned parents about where to find it, with the addition that special trips, such as the Farm Trip (4th Grade) and Camp Glenbrook (7th Grade), hiking or camping trips (by class) and the 8th Grade class trip may have their own student supply lists. (Look for updates from your class teacher or class parent.)
