Education may be the most important choice you make for your child; its value extends far beyond the classroom, shaping your child’s and even your family’s experience over a lifetime. The Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School’s one and only mission is to make Waldorf education available to as many children as possible. Please call or make an appointment to come visit. We are committed to partnering with you to make a Steiner education possible for your family.
Sliding Scale Tuition
We created the sliding fee scale to invite our community into Waldorf education with annual tuition based on family income. Available for Early Childhood through 8th Grade, in most cases sliding scale tuition eliminates the need for families to request additional tuition support.
Sliding scale tuition applies to families whose adjusted gross income falls within the range of less than $30,000 to $100,000. (The sliding scale is intended for those families whose tax returns accurately reflect their ability to pay. If your family’s true financial situation is not reflected in your tax returns, we ask that you pay at a level appropriate to your financial position.)
To utilize the sliding scale, simply submit a copy of your most recent tax return to the GBRSS Business Office (email@example.com) by the enrollment and tuition support deadline of March 15, 2018 so we can incorporate the appropriate rate into your 2018-19 school contract.
Click here for an updated chart of sliding scale rates for 2018-19.
Families paying published tuition rates with more than one child attending the school may request a 10% discount for the second and each subsequent child. We recognize that for families with three or more children enrolled in the school, even the sliding scale tuition may be unmanageable. In this case, please see our Tuition Support Procedure, or make an appointment with our Business Office for a personal tuition management meeting.
We encourage elementary school families whose financial circumstances fall outside the sliding scale to apply for tuition support. Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School uses a nationally recognized service, TADS, to process tuition support applications. TADS applies standardized criteria, including family income, assets, expenses and other circumstances such as family size, to determine to what extent each family needs support to pay for one year’s tuition. The GBRSS tuition support committee uses information from the TADS process to allocate resources. Multiple payment plans are available; please see our Annual Tuition Rates 2017-2018 page for more information.
To apply for tuition support, please complete the required TADS forms and submit all necessary documents directly to TADS by March 15, 2018. The TADS Financial Aid Worksheet (below) is designed to assist you in completing the application. For assistance in submitting these materials, please contact the TADS parent help line at (800) 477-8237, between the hours of 9am-9pm Eastern Standard Time. For general questions about the admissions or tuition support process, contact Admissions Director Robyn Coe at firstname.lastname@example.org or (413) 528-4015 ext. 106. For questions related to GBRSS tuition support policies or to request a personal tuition management meeting, contact Business Manager Jeff Novick at email@example.com or (413) 528-4015 ext. 101.
