Education may be the most important commitment you make for your child; its value extends far beyond the classroom, shaping your child’s and even your family’s experience over a lifetime. The Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School is committed to working with every current and prospective parent to make a GBRSS education possible.
Sliding Scale Tuition
The sliding fee scale has been created to make this education possible for a broader community and sets tuition based on family income. Sliding scale tuition is available for Early Childhood through 8th Grade, and in most cases eliminates the need for families to request additional financial aid.
Sliding scale tuition applies to families whose adjusted gross income falls within the range of less than $30,000 to $100,000. The sliding scale is intended for those families whose tax returns accurately reflect their ability to pay. If your family’s true financial situation is not reflected in your tax returns, we ask that you pay at a level appropriate to your financial position.
Families who choose to utilize the sliding scale are required to submit a copy of their current tax return, verifying their Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). In order to be accurately reflected in your 2017-18 school contract, families should submit their most recent tax return to the GBRSS Business Office prior to the contract deadline of April 1, 2017.
Families paying published tuition rates, with more than one child attending the school, may request a 10% discount for the second, and each subsequent, child. We recognize that for families with three or more children enrolled in the school, even the sliding scale may make it difficult to afford tuition at GBRSS. If this is the case, please see our Tuition Assistance Procedure, or make an appointment with our Business Office.
We encourage elementary school families whose financial circumstances fall outside the sliding scale to apply for financial aid. Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School uses a nationally recognized service, TADS, to process financial aid applications. TADS applies standardized criteria to determine to what extent each family needs assistance to pay for one year’s tuition. In evaluating a family’s ability to contribute to their child’s education, family income, assets, expenses and other circumstances, including family size, are taken into account. The GBRSS financial aid committee uses information from the TADS process to allocate scholarship resources. Multiple payment plans are available; please see our Annual Tuition Rates 2017-2018 page for more information.
If you choose to apply for Financial Aid, please complete the required TADS financial aid forms and submit all necessary documents directly to TADS by March 15, 2017. The TADS Financial Aid Worksheet (below) is designed to assist you in completing the application. For assistance in submitting these materials, please contact the TADS parent help line at (800) 477-8237, between the hours of 9am-9pm Eastern Standard Time.
